A peek into Kate's world

Not often do I make posts about myself or my art, but I thought I would share the beginning of my new series with you. For as long as I can remember, I have made these complex doodles. These are the markings and lines that come out of me while I am doing other things....listening, watching, or engaging in another task.

I love my doodles because they are a part of me. Each is unique, different in its own way, and one-of-a-kind. They express the inner process occurring within me at any given time, and are a sort of "snap shot" of my Self in the moment.

Trees, Glorious Trees

Those who know me well know of my fascination with trees.

The image of a tree has an amazing ability to represent human form in a metaphor that is often intriguingly accurate and thought provoking. For example, the deeply knotted, weathered-looking trunk in the first tree shown below could parallel a person's experience of their life and body being tight, knotted, and worn. The roots shown in the second tree, straining to hold a tree that appears to be falling sideways, could be indicative of a person's "roots" or feelings of steadiness and groundedness being pulled apart from the solidity of their life as their world shifts directions. The third tree shows a pear-shaped trunk sitting solidly upon its foundation. This could indicate a body image depiction of a person feeling the weight of their body.

These trees all grow naturally and beautifully at the Denver Botanic Gardens, however the way individuals draw trees can show many hints into both their conscious and subconscious experience of their Self on multiple fronts.

Thank you, Mother Nature, for giving us such accurate and applicable metaphors for our own projection!

Stellar Deal!

For a limited amount of time, my book The Authentic Mother, will be for sale on Amazon's Kindle store for only $1.99! If you haven't already gotten your copy, click here to nab one!

A few reviews for the book state:

"This is a truly amazing book that can accompany any new parent or parent-to-be on their first stages of the exciting journey of new parenthood. Kate King's writing is very authentic, wise, and connects well with the reader. Can’t wait to read more! As a licensed professional counselor, I feel this book will be a valuable asset to many of my clients and others I know who have gone through new parenthood or are now. I also love the creative aspects to it, which add so much depth and allow the reader to adapt it to their unique situation and personality."

"The way the author wrote The Authentic Mother is so genuine you feel as though she is there with you, helping you through it, sharing her story with you. She isn't writing as a therapist, she is writing as a friend. Before I read this book I was in a dark place and I didn't even realize it. I am not currently a mother, but I did suffer the loss of my child through adoption. While working through and completing the art directives in this book, I was able to shine a bright light onto the scary areas surrounding my feelings. I now feel a sense of freedom and purpose. I suggest this book for any woman who has been pregnant. This book gives you a sense of sisterhood. We are all in this together! Well done, Kate King!"

"The Authentic Mother is an insightful, honest, thoughtful and a well written book. The lessons that can be learned are not only for mothers but are extend to those that aren't, as well as fathers, and friends and family of parents. Beyond the wonderfully written content, the art directives are interesting, well explained, and optional, if it's not your thing. Kate King and The Authentic Mother offer a perspective that is missing from parenting books. A definite recommend!"

Big Bites, Little Bites

How very interesting it is to consider the difference of food intake from one country to the next.

I stumbled upon this thought-provoking article and wanted to share it with you.

If you could put your daily food intake on a tray in front of you, would you be happy with what you see? Would you feel judgmental? Guilty? Grateful?

Create Storytelling Ideas for Kids

If you're looking for ways to enhance your child's (or even your own) creativity, here are a few great examples for imaginative storytelling activities.

By the way, this blog "The Imagination Tree" is quickly becoming a favorite of mine for all things creative for kids, as well as for adults. Keep in mind that adults can utilize child directives to connect with their own inner child and sense of playfulness. Try not to limit yourself away from creativity simply because many art directives seem to be designed with kids in mind. Anything can be tweaked to be fun and introspective for adults with just a little bit of imagination.
